ballpark I was going to blog on about adventures in the European theatre but was overtaken by an unusually heavy workload in the real world and before I could say ‘Italia’ the 6 nations was upon me. I’m sat before a computer keyboard wondering what on earth I might say about the 6 nations that will come across all original and unhackneyed.

I don’t for one moment envy those journos whom spew out acres of print on all angles, anecdotes, murmurings, chat and anything else that justifies their cloistered existence amidst the sporting galacticos and journeymen of rugby union.

ravens120white Despite the low score line and the wet and windy conditions this truly was an exciting match as Ulster Ravens completely outfought and outplayed their opponents in Navan last night.

In fact if the weather had been kinder and a couple of final passes went to hand Ulster would have come away with a thoroughly disserved win by 20 – 30 points, such was their dominance.

fru120 Our friends over on sharksworld.co.za would like to invite FRU readers to enter in their popular Fantasy League and Last Man Standing Super 14 competitions!

Prizes for both competitions have yet to be finalised, but they will be good, as always. Last year’s winners in the Super 14 competitions won tickets to see the Lions, while the winners of the Currie Cup games each won a supporter’s jersey of their choice. We’re currently negotiating with sponsors to ensure that this year’s prizes are even sweeter.

ireland120 It may appear somewhat churlish in the week leading up to the start of the Six Nations tournament to even contemplate criticising Grand Slam winning coach Declan Kidney, but forgive my boorish behaviour as I do have a nagging worry about a couple of aspects of the team selection.

My concern is, yet again, with the front row, namely the two props that were destroyed by Australia and South Africa in the November internationals and a decidedly not match fit Flannery. With this trio in concert I see the Ireland scrum being under intense pressure throughout the game which could give Italy a sniff of a chance and will, if the same players are selected next week, have the French pack rubbing their hands in anticipation.

sportstrolley120This weekend sees the start of the RBS Six Nations tournament so there are only three fixtures this week.

For those of you that need a big score to get back in the running don’t worry as we’re going to have a couple of bumper weeks this month with the return of the British and Irish Cup starting next week.

If any of you are planning to go to any of the internationals and haven’t got tickets yet can we recommend our new sponsor, viagogo, who still have some bargain’s available for the Six Nations as well as concerts and other sports events.
