Meedya News!
Woo Hoo! Real news from the Ulster Rugby Website at last! We’ve finally got an injury update on five of our key players! Maybe they were worried that the new boy at the Belfast Telegraph was going to scoop them with this one as well, or perhaps Humphreys has finally managed to persuade the powers that be that a website is actually abut communication not just selling matches, and promoting sponsors!
You never know but we may even get a full squad list, with who’s signed for how long, before the start of the season rather than have us rely on the esteemed Cables over on the UAFC site! I see they advertised for a web wizard recently (strangely while I was away in South Africa and couldn’t apply) so maybe they are going to make more of an effort next season. Let’s hope so for in the absence of real news from HQ all the rest of us can do is speculate – and even the dogs on the street know where that gets us!
It seems however that the BT and UR have made up over Richard Hill gate with some nice pieces on the new management team, but I don’t know if I’m happy about that or not. Having someone at the BT chipping away and asking questions was no bad thing and seemed to force UR’s hand on a few occasions over the last month or so. Too cosy relationships leads to accusations of collusion when you get the likes of the unstable Gareth Thomas being awarded Belfast Telegraph man of the match at Ravenhill – completely devaluing the award to past winners – but then again we all know that the FRU MotM is the one that counts!
While catching up on the musings about the new management team on the Belfast Telegraph my eye was drawn to the ramblings of the somewhat resentful Peter Bills on the Lions Tour. It appears that the irritable Bills has been ostracised by the Lions PR machine with headlines such as “Soft Lions’ underbelly is ripped apart”, “Whatever the spin, Lions spirit is dead”, “Laughable quality” and “McGeechan has nothing in reserve” as he tries to justify his bitter pre tour stance. Unfortunately any valid points are lost in his struggle for self justification and his complete and under lack of understanding of what the Lions means to real supporters.
Finally, Setanta, as we know it are no more. Just where this leaves the Magners League is yet to be announced but any loss of income should be worth it if it sees the removal of the limited Neil Francis from our TV screens. With a bit of luck we won’t be forced to watch him, literally, slobber and drool his way through another inane commentary. Which reminds me, I must go and cancel my subscription!
