bicup I’ve been caught on the hop this week as I’ve just noticed that the final round of the British and Irish Cup Pool fixtures have been split over two weekends.

This means that Ulster Ravens will go into their final fixture on March 12th knowing exactly what they will have to do to progress to the knock out stages.

Given the tight nature of the group I must say that this is a bit of a disappointing end to what has been a useful competition, with the Ravens having a bit of an unfair advantage over group rivals London Welsh.

Let’s hope the organisers look into this should they decide to continue with this competition next season.

In case you’ve tuned in on the basis that this is about music and Jim Kerr, I am sorry to disabuse you of the notion, I think I read somewhere he’s an inveterate footie supporter.

If he had played a bit of rugby in his youth he may well have been like myself and went down to the training field in the off season and played a simple game. With a minimum of 2 on each side and anything up to 4 a-side, the game involved punting the ball out of hand down the pitch. The idea was to gain territory from the 22 and eventually win by crossing the halfway line.

ulster120white Ulster Head Coach Brian McLaughlin has named a 27 man squad ahead of Ulster’s Magners League fixture against Scarlets, to be played at Parc y Scarlets on Friday 5th March, kick off 7.05pm.

Commenting on his side’s crucial Magners League game, Coach Brian McLaughlin said,

“We have to go to the Scarlets really positive about our own ability to win away from home. There can be no doubt that we have been improving our away performances, it is something that we talked about at the beginning of the season, but we have to go to Llanelli and be accurate with everything we do.

uafc Unfortunately our friends over on the UAFC have been attacked by hackers yet again. It may take a couple of days to get the site and the messageboard fully restored.

This appears to be a more agressive attack but hopefully the main site should be up and running by tonight, but the forum may have to be re-installed, upgraded and the database checked.

The guys at UAFC will use this posting to keep you up to date with what’s happening.

If you have any questions you can leave a message below.

sportstrolley120 You can view the results for Week 25 here.

It was another close finish for manager of the month for February with Stormin, Graeme King and Stately Homes all tying on 26 points.

All three showed their loyalty by selecting, Ulster, Ravens or Ireland in the appropriate weeks but unfortunately for Graeme, he drops out on the count back with Stormin and Stately both scoring the highest weekly score of 14 points in Week 25.

In fact with identical results all month we can’t separate this pair so they will be our first joint winners this season. Congratulations to both!

ireland120 Absolutely up to my eyes this week so this is not going to be much of a report. Not that the ever are I hear you reply!

Anyway, things on Saturday went pretty much as expected with Ireland having enough class to see off the brute force and ignorance of the English pack.

Bowe (2) and Earls (1) scored the tries for Ireland despite England dominating most aspects of the game and while a win is a win Ireland still have a lot of concerns to take out of this game.

The chief problem is still in the front row and with the commendable Hayes now reaching the milestone of 100 caps the coaching staff must now start and look at the alternatives for the world cup.
